It is so hard for me to believe that 2018 is already over and that we are already three weeks into 2019! Where has all the time gone? 2019 will be a particularly exciting year for me as I will be graduating in May and am headed off into the “real world”. The idea of “post-grad” life definitely stresses me out a little bit, but nevertheless I am excited for whatever journey or path I take. Any who, with this being my first blog post of the New Year (better late than never, am I right?!), I decided to share some of my resolutions for the New Year!
1. Read more books: Fun Fact: I used to be a major bookworm when I was younger! I love learning, so in this New Year I really want to make the effort to read more books! I am aiming for a minimum of at least two books a month; if I end up reading more than that that would be great! Some of the books on my list are Becoming by Michelle Obama, Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies Who You are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be by Rachel Hollis, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han and Mary Rose by Geoffrey Girard. If you have any recommendations for books, send them my way!
2. Make smarter money decisions: When it comes to budgeting my money, I do have a budget in place, but I believe that there is always room for improvement. It’s funny how when I wrote my New Years Resolution for last year, I mentioned that I realized that I spent a lot of money on food. This past year, instead I spent a lot of money on drinks and clothes. For 2019, I definitely need to establish a budget for Happy Hour and think twice when purchasing clothes or accessories. My general rule when it comes to shopping is if I can’t see myself wearing the outfit more than once, then it will be smart to pass on it.
3. Be consistent with my workouts: I did a pretty decent job of working out in 2018. I started Pilates at the beginning of the year and I love it so much! I typically go once-twice a week (depending on my school/work schedule). I have also tried my best to squeeze in a leg, ab or arm day here and there when it was convenient to my schedule. I love how I feel after working out but the thing that I struggle with is consistency. This semester there are some days where I don’t have class or work until the afternoon, so I am going to try to make use of my time by keeping my body on schedule and not sleeping in.
4. Pick up a new hobby: One thing that I have been wanting to learn how to do is play golf! Aside from the fact that a lot of networking and business deals are closed on the golf course, it seems like a sport that is fun to learn and I like that it is not hard on your body so you can still continue to play it for years on end.
5. Start saving up for a trip: So many people have told me that the best thing that you can do while you are “young” is to travel the world. While my family and I did do a lot of traveling when I was younger, there are still plenty of places that I would like to visit. A lot of my friends also have the same New Years Resolution, and since we are all are not married and don’t have kids I think that it would make it even more fun if we made it a girl trip!
6. Practice my Spanish more often: One of my lifetime goals is to become fluent in another language! I have been learning Spanish since I was six years old and studied it through middle, high school and college.
